New Place!

IMG_3593

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THIS AMAZING KITCHEN!?
I am moving a week from Monday to a new apartment.  It's a little further from work, but I'm looking forward to saving some money!

In this economy, that's a good thing, yes?  I'm telling you, I have really been inspired by the "I will teach you to be rich" blog.

This whole being a better steward/managing my money thing is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE not a New Year's resolution.

The other thing I'm SUPER EXCITED about is having a washer and dryer again. I have lived without one (in my own apartment) for almost two years and I absolutely hate it.  I can't wait to be reunited!

Snow Day with Brokaw

IMG_3645

Was it Tuesday? I'm not sure.  This month has been like one giant Monday..

Anyway, it snowed.  And B-Dawgles LOVES SNOW!

IMG_3648

Action shot.  Look at those ears twirl!

IMG_3652

Awww. Paws.

Presh.

IMG_3633

This was after we came back in.  My boy crashed on the floor, all squashed down and fell asleep as I was watching TV.

I think the cutest thing about this position is how he sleeps with his little head in his paws.

Preshilicious.

IMG_3634

..... And this part reminds me of Thanksgiving.

IMG_3664

This is my baby all snuggled under the covers.  I have not ever done this before... took a picture of my dog, under the covers.

But, ain't it cute? Whatev.

My Awesome Inaugural View

Right now, I'm listening to Snow Patrol.  How appropriate, right?  Brrrrrr.  I totally almost busted my tail walking Brokaw after work today.  I need Scott Hamilton to come teach me how to ice skate because the sidewalks are like ice, ice, baby!

I can't sleep, for some reason.  Maybe because it's 3:00 in the afternoon and even though I've been doing this dreadful overnight schedule for 2+ YEARS NOW, I'm still not used to it.  Oh, I dream of the day this part is over.  Sometimes I think about that country song, "You're gonna miss this,"  I love that song, and I know it's probably true but on days like this, when I lay awake stressing about not being asleep and counting the hours of sleep I'm not getting, I wish it were over.

Oh, well.  I'm fortunate enough to have a job.  I am thankful for that.  And it's a job I do throughly enjoy.  Some days, like last Tuesday, I simply cannot believe I get paid for this stuff.  It's surreal.  Front row to history.  An amazing view of Barack Obama as he became our 44th President.

IMG_3508

We went out the day before to get all of our equipment in place.

Totally dorking out....

The Capitol looks so pretty all dressed up, yes?

IMG_3505

Watching the stand-ins during rehearsal.

I thought it was funny that the fake Obamas were all dressed up and the fake John Roberts was rocking a fleece..

Maybe he was just focused on learning the words to the oath... OH WAIT...

**I seriously just spent 40 minutes trying to work on this post and I just hit something and deleted a bunch of stuff... Now I'm actually feeling semi tired, so I'm going to seize upon this opportunity.  Perhaps I will have time again soon to update with pictures of the actual inauguration ceremony...

January09 011  Hi! It's me.  2 weeks after Inauguration, and I'm back.  Finally.

L_747ed606db9c4982855cdc6b09fccfb0

What I will remember most about the day is how cold it was.

Eric's water froze when he opened it.

L_735eb63c05a14215961093b7dae626c7

We were out there for live shots starting at 5am.

This is clearly still early-on, since I am smiling.

Crowd

The crowd on the Mall was insane!  I'm pretty sure I haven't ever seen that many people in one place in my life!!

Beyonce
We spotted several celebrities in the crowd, including BEYONCE! (can't get her song out of my head!) and Diddy.

The best thing about this picture is that it looks like Diddy is wearing that purple glove.

Bush

I've also never seen so many Presidents in one place!

41!

Clintons

Bill & Hill.

Say what you want about Hillary Clinton, I am almost always impressed with her highlights.

George

And 43.  Georgie.  How I will miss you.

Obama

And the man of the hour.

Obama2

Apparently when you're the incoming free leader of the world, they put a little blanket on your seat for you.

Barack didn't use it.  I wish they would have put these blankets up on the media risers because I assure you, they would have been used!

Malia

I thought Malia was so cute, taking pictures.

Joe
Joe went first.

Look in the back and you can see Mac!  Sportin' some shades!

Barack

And then it was President Obama's turn!

Funny thing about this:  I did not even notice that they messed the oath up!

I was too cold.  My ears had shut down way before this point.

Obamas

I thought little Sasha was so cute afterwards, it was like she was saying, "Yesss!!"

Speech

Then Obama gave his inaugural speech.

I swear, it got colder and colder!

But, what an amazing experience!!

Obamaspeech

Mac took the shades off for the speech.

Nikole

My correspondent, Nikole, is under there somewhere!

Eric

And my photographer, Eric, is under there somewhere. (some people thought this was me on Facebook, Ha!)

We were joking that they looked like criminals.  Actually, we were calling them something else but I don't want to put that word and other words on this blog post at risk of coming up together on a Google search, and ending up in Guantanamo Bay or something!

Nikole2

See? There's Nikole...

Eric2

And Eric.

Colddana

And yours truly... this was after my 2nd pair of gloves unraveled and I turned my scarf and cell phone into a makeshift headset so I didn't have to take my hands out of my pockets!

Genus, I thought.

Davidgregory

You know I was geeking out with all of the big name media around like David Gregory...

Betsyfischer
Truth be told, I was more excited to see his executive producer, Betsy Fischer, in action!!

(I know many of you don't know who she is, but trust me, she's awesome!)

Schumer

And you know wherever there are a couple hundred television cameras around.. you're sure to see this guy!

Senator Schumer loves to be on TV and he's always a good soundbite.

Obamasmile

All in all, it was one incredible day!

The 20 hour day, even in the cold, even sleeping on an air mattress in my boss's office... TOTALLY WORTH IT!

I mean, who gets to be this close to this stuff?  Seriously.  I know I will never forget it.  And I am so thankful I got to have a front row seat to such an incredible, historical event.

Side note: That lady above President Obama there, trying to rock the Little Red Riding Hood look like I was, that's his mother-in-law and she's living in the White House with them... I keep meaning to look that up... how many MILs have lived in the White House?  It'd be a fun fact to know..

Finally, I finished this blog.  Now I can get over my guilt about it.  Sorry it took 2 weeks to post.  I haven't had the time, I've been crazy busy!

I'm in love with a correspondent

Listen to my brilliant man, here.

Stalling...

Next up on my blog to-do list is a post on the Inauguration.  But I just don't have time to load all of my pictures up right now, so maybe later.

To stall... look at this from the Washington Post. It's amazing!  Such a creative interactive way to tell the story!  Score one for internet journalism. (I whispered that, please don't kill my craft.)

And, check this out. (shout out Brent) If you're terribly bored, you can find me if you play Where's Waldo with this picture.  Hint: I'm on the media riser, wearing a red scarf on my head.

Wedding Dress Search, Part 1

Not long after I got back, we went into wedding planning mode!!  With the holidays over, it's definitely time to start working on this major project!  We've made some serious progress.  Save the dates - done.  (not mailed yet, but this week... hopefully)  Registry - done (Target - of course).  And, thanks to some pushing from good girlfriends, I started my search for THE WEDDING DRESS.  I was never one of those girls who had all these "dreams" about her wedding, you know?  So, I was really intimidated by the trip to David's Bridal.  Whoaaa....  All I knew for sure was that I didn't want anything poofy or anything princessy.  I had fun but left more confused than I entered.

**Note:  I'm not posting a picture of THE DRESS because I'm going all old-school and I don't want my man to see it or me in it.  So, don't expect to see pictures of it here, but if you want to see it,email me.

I didn't find it on this trip, but like I said, Gretchen and I had a great time!

IMG_3470

Oh! Nails.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Sometimes the names of these places just crack me up!

The only thing that would make this better is if it was singular - Oh! Nail

True to form, we both saw the sign and Gretchen just walked over to the sign... she didn't have to ask me if I had my camera, and I didn't have to ask if she wanted me to take a picture.

Oh! Nails.

IMG_3471

We had dinner at Tommy Thai.

I'm thinking Tommy isn't his real name, you know?

But it was YUMMY!! I love Thai food.  Ann, shout out to you for moving to a place with awesome food - I can't wait to come visit you ONE DAY!

IMG_3472

Gretchen smarted...

Then, it was into David's Bridal we went... I tried on a parade of dresses.  I was a little scared at first, but then it was fun... then I ran out of energy because I had been awake for like 20 hours... which is why I look like death.  Like I said, none of these are THE DRESS but the pictures are fun to look at and part of the reason I love having a blog is for selfish reasons, I love looking back at the memories, so here are some pics of the Not-My-Dress-Parade...

       IMG_3489  IMG_3482IMG_3473IMG_3484IMG_3478

I spent a lot of time this past week thinking about my favorite dress from that trip, which was this one:

IMG_3494  IMG_3495

This dress was the only one that really, truly felt good on.  Felt like "me."  But I wrestled ALL WEEK with - do I really want a tea-length wedding dress?

It was a good price, which was appealing.

And it was really easy to get on, which was also nice.  And we are having a pretty casual ceremony, but I don't know, something about it just didn't feel right...

Even though it was super cute!

I had no idea what to do about shoes for this dress, either.  And I don't want to look back at my wedding pictures in 20 years and wish I had "dressed up more" or something.  I mean, how many occasions do you have to wear a full-on GOWN, you know?

I do like this dress, though.

See my back-and-forth??  Troubling, I tell you.  To be continued...

Other trip pictures

I have a couple more pictures from our trip that I found while I was looking back at pictures.  How sad is it that the only way I can remember what I've done in the past 3 weeks is to look at my pictures?  If there's not a picture of it, it's like it didn't even happen!

IMG_3382

Another beautiful sunset we saw on our road trip.

IMG_3383This is Michael's PaPa, Harry and his girfriend, Miss Jean and little Ally, who completely stole my heart!!

She was so stinking adorable - showing me all of her Barbie stuff and dancing and singing to country music videos on TV.

She made me want a little girl SO BAD!

SOMEDAY....

p.s. Aren't Harry & Jean the cutest couple, ever??

LOVE THEM.

IMG_3385As if my melted heart could not be any more liquified... Michael reading Beauty and the Beast to Allison - complete with voices and everything.

You know it was good when it pulled my attention away from my Hokies playing in the Orange Bowl...

Aaaahhh.  Cutest. Thing. Ever.  Like I said... SOMEDAY.

IMG_3386I know this is random... and unfortunately the lighting in Cracker Barrel wasn't all that good.. but look closely, past Michael's shoulder there, and you'll see one of the greatest childhood mullets EVER.

It had lots of product and the dad had a champion of a mullet, too.

Nice.

IMG_3387Luke and Beka were nice enough to give us a ride up to the airport... they remind me so much of the couple in the Sonic commercials... so, natrually, when we stopped at Sonic for breakfast, I had to take their picture!

What a funny couple.  Good people!  Love them, too.

IMG_3397

Mad props to Granny Nora who watched Brokaw for 2 WEEKS while I was gone!

God, did I miss this dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I mean, look at that face, seriously!!!!
