I have to make this quick...

How is it that the "during the week" part of the week feels like it doesn't really exist? Let me recap my week for you:

I fell asleep Sunday. They named a new Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin.  The President addressed the nation.  It snowed. It snowed. It snowed. It snowed.

Now, I just woke back up and it's my Friday!! I don't know what's up with the coma I've been in this week, but I'll take it.  I just have to get through one night of work tonight and then it will be the WEEKEND, yay.

I don't know what is up with me organizing posts lately in numbers (we all know I have a no math policy and do not like numbers, but whatev) here you go:

1. Mike Tomin got the job. Yay. He was the one I wanted all along. :)

2. Poor President Bush. I wish the media would stop beating him down. Isn't it enough? And (gasp) I was even mad at NBC this week! I thought David Gregory's piece on Today was totally one sided the next morning, compared to GMA. Go ahead, gasp again.

3. I love my dad. Can I just get that out there? I just do. He gets me in weird ways like the State of the Union = the Super Bowl for him too. Don't ask, we just dig this stuff. Plus, he reads cool smart books that I could never attempt, like the one he's reading now about World War One.

4. You know how I was going on and on the other day about the beauty and majesty of the snow? Yeah, I'm over it. It was my understanding that snow eventually melted. Is that not true anymore? I apparently own NO shoes that are snow-proof. I think I'm going to get gang green.

5. The people I work with, well, rock. They supplied me with lots of stuff for this weekend. I plan on making a Dana print on my couch, watching the British version of The Office (thanks Nick) and my Matthew McConaughey movie collection (thanks Rege) -- and whomever sent our newsroom that as a press kit, may the good Lord bless you. (note: all of my friends that put together press kits, that is a really good idea -- give the Executive Producer Matthew, she'll love you forever)

6. You must go to Gretchen's blog and read about our Thai adventures. Trust me, you must. Follow the link to your left.  You will so wish you could go to dinner with us. Now, that's entertainment! (also: shout out to Gretchen for some of the most. amazing. coffee. ever. ever.)

7. One year ago, this week, was my last week at WAVY. I can't believe I've been here a year.  Why do I still feel new to the area? Am I slow or something?

8. I've been listening to the old Norah Jones CD all week and it's so romantic.  I have kind of been a man-hater in recent months, but I think Norah is changing the tide for me. That CD makes me want to be in someone's arms. I don't get it. But I kind of like it. Weird, huh?

Eight is enough, right? Good, because I'm way off schedule tonight.  I have to take in my news online (gasp).  I didn't wake up from my coma in time to watch all that I had tivo'd in my sleep.  So Long... :)

Waiting On The Truth

  RussgrimmMiketomlin

My city is being held hostage this weekend. Hostage as in it's tied up, and doesn't know the truth, or the future.

Bill Cowher retired, and since the day he did so, wearing that horrible Huxtable sweater, the big question has been "Who will the next coach of the Steelers be?" It almost seems as if nothing else matters. Half the city could burn down and we'd still cover the "Coach Watch."  People live and breathe Black & Gold here. And I'm not kidding. Or exaggerating.

That said, this weekend has kind of been hilarious.  We're down to three potential coaches: Russ Grimm, Mike Tomlin, Ron Rivera.  Well Rivera's been tied up because 'Da Bears have been doing so well.  Tomlin and Grimm have been interviewed and re-interviewed.

Okay, so yesterday Sports Illustrated reported Tomlin got the job. So did espn.com. Then the local papers were split... the Post-Gazette said Tomlin.  The Trib said Grimm. I watched the news last night and it was pretty much "Mixed reports in the media."  No comment from the Steelers. Tomlin said if he had been offered the job, he didn't know about it.

Sigh. See what I mean? Everyone wants to know so badly. Everyone wants to be the first to know. What is the future? Who is the man? Where are we going? What will next season look like? Swirling.

This is typical of our lives, huh?  We are in such a frenzy to know what/who's next that we don't wait patiently on THE TRUTH. The truth that is right/true/definite/sets us free.

My friends, the truth will be revealed, in its time. There is no need to swirl around in a sea of uncertainty. Sit back. Relax. Trust. The truth has a way of coming out.

That... is my wisdom for the night. In an hour, I'll be at work writing about the Grimm/Tomlin possibilities. Ironic, huh? I just thought while my God shared a "truth" with me, I'd pass it along to you. Be blessed this week.

Breaking News

Today is going to 4 hours!! I wish that meant they were hiring me right now... hmmm... someday. Someday!

Todayshow_logo

wine in the mornin'

Yep. That's what I'm having right now. A glass of wine... at 10am. Don't panic, it's "pm" for me, since I get OFF work in the morning.  Oh, that "try not to work as much" resolution I made for the week... today I failed. 10 hours. Hhmmff.

And when I was driving home, it was SNOWING. It is beautiful, the snow, isn't it? I think my favorite thing about snow is its silence. Amazing. Breathtaking. And I'm glad most of it is going to fall today, during the day, when I'm asleep in my bed and my car is nestled in my garage.

Two posts in two days

Man, I am such an overachiever!

My goal for the week is to work less. Sounds like an underachiever, I know, but before you think my work ethic is depleting... consider this: I work too much.  Seriously, my day is 10 hours, sometimes 11 and that's just ridiculous, considering I get paid for 8, no matter what. So my goal for the week is to work 9 hours a day. We'll see how that goes. Workaholism runs in my family.

Yesterday, I felt late even though I wasn't, technically. I blame The Postal Service. Geez, I love that album but I feel like it makes me drive slow.

Today was Martin Luther King day.  He really was an incredible man. Proof that one person really does have a voice and can make a difference. I wish I could get to Atlanta to see those documents that were released today, amazing.

I just ate a cupcake for breakfast. Mmmmm. But my tummy hurts a little. Happy Tuesday everyone, don't be jeal my week moves faster than yours. :)

Oh, and I am currently finalizing my New Year's Resolution list. I like to get started in February. I will disclose my goals at a later date.

2nd week in January

Sorry I was absent from this space for a week.

Here's what you missed.

1. I am really excited David Beckham is coming to America. Bring him on. I could actually watch this guy play soccer.

2. I really want to be behind the President on Iraq. I'm going to try. I hope this "new strategy" works. Either way, I'm behind the soldiers, ALWAYS.

3. I found out a friend of mine was hired by NBC News to work at the White House. I seriously cannot imagine a cooler job. I was so excited for her I lost two days of sleep!

4. My dog is some kind of houdini. He can actually remove the cardboard roll from a roll of toilet paper, while it's hanging up in the bathroom. Of course, this makes me mad, but it does leave me wondering... how DOES he do that?

5. My friend Michael opened up a new world to me: podcasts I never knew existed. Free ones. On Itunes. White House press briefing, NPR... the list goes on. I am such a nerd. But I'm a proud one.

6. My work screwed up my paycheck and I realized how I need to pay closer attention to how/what/where I'm spending and get a grip. It's time to grow up and face the "B" word I've always HATED. Budget. eeewww.

7. KENNY CHESNEY IS COMING TO THE 'BURGH. June 9th. Tickets go on sale Feb. 10th. I am so there and I shall not let my new "B" word affect that. This, my friends, is a need, not a want!

I think that's all... I wish you all a blessed week.

Happy Friday!

Finally!! These past two four day weeks have been way too long. It's rainy and I'm feeling particularly reflective today.

Bill Cowher resigned.

I saw a few people at work get watches the other day to celebrate 10 years with the company. That made me really mad. A watch? Seriously? For 10 years of your life?

Then, this morning, Matt Lauer celebrated 10 years on Today. There were shout outs from celebrities, old co-workers came by to congratulate, they had a 10 layer cake and a live performance from the lead singer of Five For Fighting.

Now, that's what I'm talking about.  I don't want my life to pass me by while I earn a watch. I want that 10 layer cake at 30 rock, I'm pretty sure.

So, me, my ipod, my Wall Street Journal, my Newsweek and my Relevant are going to Starbucks, where I will plot my future. 14586__matt_lauer_l_1Ecwm8_1Cowherbill06_01_1041005_starbucks

I loved "We Are Marshall."  I was forewarned about needing tissues, so I came prepared.  I never realized the 70's had so much plaid!  That said, MM was still so hot. I didn't realize that Kimberly Williams-Paisley was in the movie too. I like her. Do you think she'll always be known as the girl from "Father of the Bride?" Don't you love that movie? What a classic. I love how everyone has a "Fraunk" impression.

I'm getting off task. Please pardon.  I should be in the shower getting ready for work. It feels like Sunday, yeah?  This last week was soooooooo looooonnnnngggg, even though it was only 4 work days. Let's hope for better this week.

Oh, I forgot to mention a couple of posts back that I saw "The Holiday" with Ann and Emily. LOVED IT. LOVE JUDE LAW (personal issues withstanding)

Holiday2006 Okay, the weekend is over. I must come to terms.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
