Rollin' Through George Washington's House

A couple of weeks ago, we spent a sunny Sunday afternoon at George Washington's house.
Mount Vernon.
It's just a few miles from our house.
We aren't exactly neighbors... but it's not that far!

No offense to GW, but we were really there to meet these people.
This is Colin and Heather.  I met heather online through our blog and a spinal cord injury support site.  We have become what I call "SCI sisters." We can relate because we both juggle all this wheelchair business and all of the related business that comes along with it. You have to check out Heather's blog to see the adventures that she and Colin have been on, and they are crazy adventurous especially considering he has only been injured LESS THAN A YEAR.  You guys, traveling with all of this mess is NOT easy.  I have to give them mad props!  I wish we would have had more time to visit with them when they were on vacation in DC, but it fell during a CRAZY week.
Michael also made friends with Martha Washington. I am not even kidding.  Only my husband...
George Washington picked a pretty sweet spot for his digs, I tell you.

But the BEST part was this.
Y'all know me. I hate being stared at. Hate it.  And the ironic thing is, I'm sure when the four of us were walking/rolling around Mount Vernon that we got even more stared at then when we are navigating our world walking/rolling as separate couples.  How could we not? It's like WHEELCHAIRS: COMING THROUGH!! Hahahaha.

But not being alone with it... is comforting.
Talking about wheelchairs and gloves and cushions and rehab and medications and all of that stuff with someone else who totally gets it is way cool.

George Washington's house was pretty cool.
But spending an afternoon with our friends Heather and Colin: even cooler.  Thanks y'all! We hope to see you again!

Love this post!!!

The day spent at Mt Vernon was a good and special day! It made me realize we are not in this alone, and there are others who understand where we are and whats going on. And understands SCI talk and lingo!

We are soooo thankful we got to spend the day with the two of you and wish we could have spent more time with y'all while we were in DC.
